
When launched, PSX was rival to the Nintendo 64 and another, well-known console, Sega Saturn. However, it was referred as home entertainment system because it was designed to play games but also to use other media files such as movies, music and more. The console we all know as Sony PlayStation 1 is actually the 5th generation gaming console.

The following year it was released in the United States, Australia and other parts of the globe. It is also known as PS and PS1, due to the fact it is the first console in the PlayStation lineup.
